SNAPSHOT | MA63 talks must be sincere, constructive: Musa; KL police propose KK Marts as public safety points

- Sabah governor Musa Aman said negotiations over the Malaysia Agreement 1963, including the state’s entitlement to 40 percent of the federal government’s net revenue, must be conducted sincerely and constructively.

According to Bernama, Musa said the talks should uphold the spirit and principles on which Malaysia was formed.

He said Malaysia Day should also remind Malaysians of the promises made, the responsibility to preserve unity, and the need to ensure the country’s prosperity is shared fairly.

Musa said Sabah’s development gap must also be addressed, particularly in areas such as water and electricity supply, roads, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.

He further urged political leaders and those seeking public office to prioritise the interests of the people and country over personal or political interests, and to refrain from exploiting racial or religious sentiments for narrow political gain. 

Public safety

- Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said a proposal has been submitted to Bukit Aman to designate KK Mart outlets as public safety points to support crime prevention, The Star reported.

He reportedly said the outlets were equipped with clear CCTV cameras that could assist police, adding that the systems were controlled from a central location.

Fadil (above) said he hoped the proposal would progress, allowing the public access to more safety points. He also suggested that CCTV footage could eventually be relayed directly to the contingent headquarters.

He added that patrols around the outlets would be increased, describing the initiative as a partnership with the private sector that could benefit the public and enable more systematic and organised surveillance.
