- AirAsia Group Bhd has reportedly sold six of its newly delivered aircraft, in a move described as “unusual” and pointing to the financial strain gripping the budget airline.
Bloomberg reported that while airlines regularly take on sale-and-leaseback deals on new planes to replace large upfront purchase costs with regular lease payments, it is uncommon for companies to sell aircraft without ever having them put to service.
Citing an analysis of aircraft transactions, it reported that AirAsia, which received 10 factory-fresh Airbus SE 321neos since last year, has opted to sell half a dozen of them to lessor BBAM LLC.
Vietnamese start-up Sun PhuQuoc Airways has since either leased or purchased the aircraft involved.
- AirAsia Group founder and adviser Tony Fernandes dismissed a recent report which claimed that the government is weighing contingency plans for the airline’s domestic operations.
Speaking to reporters during a media briefing today, Tony asserted that the government has not raised such matters with AirAsia and labelled the Reuters report as “ludicrous,” according to a report by the New Straits Times.

Speaking to reporters after deputy public prosecutor Nur Farhana Poad today informed the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates’ Court of the rejection, Zamri (above), 41, said he has been given a chance to “explain” his case and the Anti-Illegal House of Worship Movement (Garah).
Free Malaysia Today reported that the court fixed April 21 to 22 for trial and extended Zamri’s bail.

Perhaps AA can work with Borneo Air. They need planes. Think of code shares. Borneo Air can expand.
there isn't a strong business plan for air asia to get itself out of this mess, the issue is there is competition now, and surviving with a poor business acumen is no longer feasible, expect air asia shares to fall way below 50 sen, and the government doesn't seem interested in bailing them out, so the ship has started to sink and people around are busy describing the ocean, while tony is behaving like an old man easing into a warm bath instead of trying to save this mess
