- The Negeri Sembilan police are stepping up security measures across the state amid attempts to depose Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

The state’s police chief Alzafny Ahmad said the police are closely monitoring the situation to maintain public order and ensure the safety of the people, Bernama reported.

He said this to reporters after performing Friday prayers at the royal mosque together with Tuanku Muhriz, state secretary Zafir Ibrahim, and more than 500 congregants.

- Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Negeri Sembilan government and Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim to take a firm stand and not bow to political pressure in handling the royal tussle involving the state’s customary rulers and Tuanku Muhriz.

He said he respects Negeri Sembilan’s unique laws and customs, but stressed that its rules and procedures must be fully observed.

“What is important now is that the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar remains secure. We pray that Tuanku Muhriz will continue to reign and carry out his duties well.

“If there are any proposals from the undang or others, the proper procedures must be followed in full. Beyond that, we will not interfere,” Bernama quoted him as saying.

Haze

- The Selangor government is considering distributing free reusable cloth face masks to school students as the haze worsens and is expected to persist until October.

Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee chairperson Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the state executive council is discussing it as a one-off initiative, Bernama reported.

Cloth masks are generally regarded as a substitute when N95 respirators are not available, with various studies finding cloth masks several times less effective than a properly fitted respirator at filtering out particulate matter.
