A minimum of 30 percent bumiputera equity ownership is no longer a requirement for private limited companies operating private educational institutions under the Education Ministry.
The ministry said the decision was reached following discussions with the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry.
"This adjustment was made to meet the current needs of the education sector and ensure participation remains open to all parties wishing to contribute to the nation's educational development," Education Ministry said in a statement today.
The ministry noted the concerns raised regarding the 30 percent bumiputera equity requirement for specific education facilities owned by private limited companies, as outlined in the Private Educational Institution Policy Statement Book published in 2006.
It added that it appreciates the contributions of all private operators and will continue working with all stakeholders to benefit the education of Malaysian children.

In a nation with so much smoke and mirrors, it's quite plausible that the Madani government decided to settle this issue now to deflect somewhat from the Najib pardon. It was going to come up soon enough.
MOE relaxes bumi equity requirement for private educational institutions but MITI states otherwise? Who is right or wrong? This is a problem with Malaysian governance? One says yes and the other says no. get your act together before you start to witness foreign firms [ulling out one by one.
Please allow but must make sure that the curriculum and syllabus is beneficial to Malaysia, NOT deviant and racist curriculem. Use them to built a stronger, just and more progressive Malaysia.
