New Straits Times headlined a leadership tussle in Wanita Umno with executive council member Kamilia Ibrahim saying that she would not adhere to the transition plan proposed by the wing's head Rafidah Aziz and will contest against Shahrizat Abdul Jalil for the deputy post.

The Star led with AirAsia's decision yesterday to do away with the RM47 fuel surcharge on all flights with immediate effect.

The daily also had a front page photo of US president-elect Barack Obama having a discussion with outgoing president George W Bush in the White House.

Malay newspapers

Berita Harian also led with the problems in the Wanita Umno wing.

Similarly Utusan Malaysia also led with Kamilia expressing her interest to contest for the second post in the wing.

Tamil newspapers

Tamil Nesan led with MIC information chief M Saravanan saying that he would not contest for the deputy president's post in the party polls next September.

The daily also quoted party veteran M Muthupalaniappan as saying that he would take on party president S Samy Vellu in the contest for the top post in the presidential polls next March.

Malaysia Nanban also reported on Muthupalaniappan's decision to contest for the top MIC post. It also reported on the long list of MIC leaders who were eyeing the other posts in the party.

Makkal Osai also reported on the challenge posed by Muthupalaniappan to Samy Vellu.

New Straits Times said that the 10-20 sen reduction proffered by Indian and Indian-Muslim restaurant operators on food items should be welcomed not for their relatively measly quantum "but as acknowledgement that profiteering on fuel-price volatility is simply unsavoury".

Utusan Malaysia lamented that many traders were still not reducing prices although the price of fuel has been reduced by the government.

Touching on the same matter, Berita Harian urged consumers to boycott traders who refuse to reduce prices.

Tamil Nesan welcomed the setting up of badminton academy in an effort to further popularise the sports in this country. The academy will be head by the deputy prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor.
