ukm universiti kebangsaan malaysia University Kebangsaan Malaysia’s (UKM) election secretariat has disqualified Norliana Yusak, a pro-Mahasiswa candidate, who won a seat for the Engineering Faculty without having to compete after the nomination last Thursday.

A source from the university have told Malaysiakini that she was disqualified for not fulfilling the terms and conditions for the campus election.

According to the source, every candidate who wish to compete must have a minimum of two semesters remaining in the university.

The source added that Norliana was a fourth-year student who is about to graduate this coming April. The seat is now left empty.

Vice-chancellor to decide

When asked about the position of the seat. Sources revealed that it is up to the discretion of the vice-chancellor to either have a re-election or to do a direct appointment.

Earlier, it was reported that the pro-Mahasiswa group in UKM have won four seats in the election without needing to contest. This was because there were no pro-Aspirasi candidates competing against them.

The three seats now won by the pro-Mahasiswa group are one in the Engineering Faculty and two in the Faculty of Islamic Studies.

A total of 11 “general” seats and 23 “faculty” seats were being contested.
