Selangor DAP chairperson Ean Yong Hian Wah quickly distanced the party from the decision.

“This is nothing more than a statement from a city councillor and cannot be taken as a decision by the party,” he said in a statement today.

“We have requested Ang to take back his suggestion, as banning the (whole) lottery industry will no doubt create a lot of controversy," he said.

He also said the party would “re-evaluate” the position of DAP members who go against the party’s stand or who disregard the public interest.
