Changkat Jering assemblyperson Mohd Osman Jailu and Behrang representative Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi were smiling broadly when Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak introduced them along with Jelapang representative Hee Yit Foong as Independents but BN-friendly members of the assembly early this week.

Sources close to the Perak Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)revealed it had not received any instructions to drop the corruption charges against the two. Hence, the trial will go on as scheduled.

"They have been charged and they will continue to stand trial," the MACC source said.

MACC director of law and prosecution Abdul Razak Musa also confirmed that the commission has not received any representation from the two.

"We only received a letter from their lawyers asking for a postponement of the trial. However, we have replied to strongly object the application.

"However, we were informed there would be a postponement to the case next week as the Sessions judge will be away in Kuala Lumpur for a three-day course," Abdul Razak, also the DPP for the case, told Malaysiakini.

Charged for accepting money

Osman is charged with accepting RM5,000 from one Mohamad Imran on Aug 14 at Aquarius Restaurant and Bar, Summit Hotel, Bukit Mertajam, Penang. He is also charged with soliciting a RM100,000 bribe from Imran at the same place and time to approve the Sri Iskandar building project and receiving a RM100,000 bribe from the same person on Aug 19 at Restoran Kluang Station Cafe, Ipoh Raya.

A representation is an application that lawyers submit to either reduce the charge or drop the charges altogether. Normally, the application would be submitted to the Attorney-General's chambers or in this case, the MACC, for consideration.

Osman and Jamaluddin who were state exco members in the just-collapsed Perak government, had 'disappeared' for the whole of last week, fueling speculation they could have been bought over by BN.

On Wednesday, the two PKR representatives appeared with Najib at a press conference in Putrajaya where they announced that they were quitting PKR and would become Independent but BN-friendly representatives.

The next day, the Sultan of Perak ordered Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar Jamaludin to step down and Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir was sworn in as the new MB yesterday.

Questions have been raised as to the sudden dissapearance of the two. It is learnt that they have been on the MACC's radar for a while on suspicion of being "on the take".

Investigations were believed to be hampered following the sudden announcement of their disappearance and the political crisis in Perak this week.
