The DAP deplores the unlawful acts of Umno members, including former Selangor menteri besar Dr Khir Toyo, engaging in unlawful acts of holding demonstrations outside its party chairman Karpal Singh's office and home without police permits.

"The actions taken by Umno, including Dr Khir, who went all the way from Selangor to Penang, are attempts to intimidate and hound Karpal with the intent to deprive him of his right to free speech," she said.

"The unlawful actions by Umno is clearly designed to seek cheap political publicity and sensationalism. The hidden objective by Umno and the BN is to create divisiveness and hostilities among Malaysians by demonising a leading figure in Pakatan Rakyat," she said.

"The right to file suits against any person is also an absolute right and cannot be questioned. In no way is it rude or disrespectful of royalty.

"It is just a legal opinion by a very senior and well-respected lawyer to which we are sure the sultan, being a man of law and being the former lord president, will take no offence or issue," said Kok.

Kok said on Friday, it was clear that Karpal is not suing the sultan personally and as such it was proof that he was clearly making a legal opinion only.

"The Pakatan suit was filed last Friday by others and it did not name the sultan as a respondent."

"Let the courts be the forum to settle the dispute now that the matter is before the courts," said the Seputeh MP.
