Four held for distributing leaflets on Perak crisis

Four people, including two women, were detained for distributing leaflets related to the Perak political crisis in Kuala Kangsar.

According to Bernama , the four, all in their 40s, were distributing the leaflets at the Arena Square Pasar Tani in Kuala Kangsar.

Kuala Kangsar district acting police chief Supt Abdul Ghafar Mohamad said the four were detained while distributing the leaflets to the public at about 9am.

Police also seized the leaflets from them.

"We detained them because leaflets distributed with regard to the political crisis in Perak may confuse or mislead the public," he told Bernama .

The four, who are being investigated under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984, were later released on police bail after their statements were recorded.

Two weeks ago, Barisan Nasional seized control of Perak after four Pakatan Rakyat representatives quit their respective parties. Three became ‘BN-friendly independents’ while another rejoined Umno.

PAS leaders to be quizzed

In an unrelated development, the police will record statements from PAS vice-president Husam Musa ( left ) and Penang state PAS commissioner Ustaz Mohd Salleh Man in connection with an illegal political ceramah last night.

The ceramah was held opposite the Masjid Jamek Sungai Nibong.

Penang police chief Ayub Yaakob said the police monitored political ceramahs as the speakers might touch on sensitive issues which could cause tension or provoke anger among the public.

Ayub said that about 300 people attended the ceramah at 9.45pm, which was organised without a permit.
