The politician who was embroiled in a sex scandal last year has expressed sympathy to Elizabeth Wong in the wake of her nude photographs controversy.

chua soi lek mca pc 171108 05 “I can understand how Elizabeth Wong is going through in the last 48 hours,” said Chua Soi Lek, who had to resign both as health minister and MCA vice-president following the revelation of two sex DVDs involving him and a woman.

“I can only say that she has my sympathy and support. I feel that she has done the right thing by offering to resign as exco and state representative, and I fully agree that everyone has the right to privacy.”

Wong, 37, whose nude photographs are being circulated by mobile phones and on the Internet, today offered to quit her state cabinet post and Bukit Lanjan state rep.

However Wong’s party boss, PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim, did not immediately accept her resignation and said the matter would be considered after the embattled politician returns from an indefinite break.

Chua, 61, stepped down from his ministerial post after conceding that he was the man featured in a secretly-taped video at a hotel in Batu Pahat, Johor.

The DVDs were first reportedly left at various locations in Muar with some copies distributed to shops in the town.

Chua, who is married, said the woman in the sex tape was a “friend”, while his wife had come out to stand by the MCA leader.

He accused his rivals of seeking to destroy his political career.

Eight months later, Chua made a remarkable comeback to active politics when he won MCA’s deputy presidency.

‘This is not the end of the world’

Chua advised Wong to “stay strong and be brave to face the storm”.

Meanwhile, in a blog posting , Wong thanked all those who have supported her after the existence of the photos were made public on Monday by two newspapers.

“I am grateful for your support and kind words of encouragement, especially from my constituents, my party and Pakatan Rakyat members, exco members and old friends. This means the world to me,” she wrote.

“I also wish to thank some fellow politicians from the other opposite end of the political divide for their encouragement too.”
