Penang-based social movement Aliran has been selected to receive the Transparency International Malaysia 2005 National Integrity Award.

This annual award is given to chosen individuals or institutions who have demonstrated their determination to fight corruption in all its manifestations, TI Malaysia president Param Cumaraswamy said in a statement today.

This year Aliran was chosen for its relentless and courageous work over the years in the struggle for justice, transparency, accountability and integrity which are the core values for ethical and effective public administration free of corruption.

Past recipients of this award were Ahmad Nordin, the late Harun Hashim and posthumously, Tun Dr Ismail, Tun Tan Siew Sin and Tun Ismail Mohd. Ali.

The award is a medallion inscribed with a citation.
