One of the Malaysian Mount Everest climbers, M Moorthy, is now being treated at Hospital Kuala Lumpur's Nerve Research Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Moorthy, 36, had slipped into a coma after falling off his wheelchair on the way to a friend's house. He became paralysed seven years ago.

He had joined the armed forces in 1998 and was enlisted into the special forces a year later. He was among the 10 climbers in the 'Malaysia Everest Project 1997'.

Two of them, M Magendaran and N Mohanadass, had reached the peak of the tallest mountain in the world.

According to Bernama, Deputy Minister for Women, Family and Community Development and MIC vice-president G Palanivel visited Moorthy today.

"Moorthy is still being treated in the ICU and MIC is prepared to help his family," he said.
