Two men who trespassed in a security zone to take photographs of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz during a port call in Malaysia were fined RM1,000 ringgit (US$265 dollars) each today.
Magistrate Azmil Muntapha Idrus imposed the fine after Yan Thiam Fook, 52, a welder, and carpenter Lam Sui Fatt, 41, pleaded guilty to the charge, said the national Bernama news agency.
They committed the offence on July 1.
Azmil said the court took into consideration the fact that the pair only wanted to take pictures of the USS Nimitz , the world's largest aircraft carrier.
But the matter involved national security and the safety of an asset belonging to a foreign nation.
