Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wants the world to stop alienating or discriminating against the community to which terrorists belong.

He said there needs to be understanding of the situation that leads to terrorism in order to deal with the matter effectively, according to a Bernama report.

However, there is no single formula in countering the problem in view of the many circumstances that lead to terrorism, he told journalists in Valletta, Malta, last night.

Abdullah was asked to elaborate on the issue of terrorism which is among the 103 points in the final communique of the three-day Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

He said he was happy that the issue of terrorism had been included in the declaration and that Malaysia had emphasised the importance of understanding the circumstances that push people to commit acts of terrorism.

"Based on our experience, it is important that we must know the reasons and the conditions that force them to do it," he said.
