A court on today sentenced an Indonesian to death by hanging for trafficking in methamphetamines.

Agus Agil, a 45-year-old carpenter, was charged with trafficking 298.3 grams (10 ounces) of the drug at an airport in central Selangor state in 1998, the national Bernama news agency reported.

High Court judge Abu Samah Nordin declared him guilty. Drug trafficking carries a mandatory death penalty in Malaysia, which has executed 229 people for the offence over the past 30 years.
