The completion of its housing programme for the hardcore poor in Senawang will help the Negeri Sembilan government achieve its target of zero squatter in Seremban by next year.

State Housing and Local Government Action Committee chairman Woo Ah Lek said the housing programme involved the construction of flats consisting of 420 units.

"Work on the flats is completed and were now waiting for the certificate of fitness (CF).

"We will be able to achieve the target of zero squatter in Seremban by 2007 when the squatters in the area are moved to Senawang by end of the year," he told Bernama today.

He said the flats in Senawang would be a transit settlement for the squatter families where they would be allowed to stay for five years while looking for their own houses.

Woo said there were 414 squatter families in the state capital with most of them located in Jalan Tunku Khursiah, Temiang, Jalan Kilat, Jalan Penjara, Jalan Tun Dr Ismail, the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd land reserves and Kampung Seri Bahagia, Senawang.
