Malaysia's national oil corporation Petronas launched its first service station in Indonesia today, marking its debut into the country's energy retailing business.

The station is located in the suburb of Cibubur in the east of the capital Jakarta and sells high octane fuels and lubricants, Petronas said in a statement.

"The launch marks an important milestone in Petronas' business involvement in Indonesia and demonstrates the company's long-term commitment to the development of the country's oil and gas sector," it said.

Petronas said it would initially focus its retail business close to Jakarta before expanding to other parts of Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan islands and eastern Indonesia.

Some 200 service stations are planned by the end of 2010, it said.

Petronas has a range of oil and gas activities in Indonesia, including oil exploration and is part of a consortium that owns and operates two natural gas pipelines in Sumatra.
