RadiqRadio has made a comeback after a three-year hiatus, marking a step towards building community media in Malaysia.
Launched today by the Centre for Independent Journalism, it is currently operating with local and international support.
A statement said the focus would be on online content "prepared by the community and targeted at the community", while staff-members will prepare news and analysis in Bahasa Malaysia.
RadiqRadio has identified a partner that will use the content for radio broadcasts over AM frequencies in the second quarter of the year.
The project, initially launched in 2001, had been shelved due to financial constraints.
