Two Malaysian men have been sentenced to six and seven years in jail after a three-day spending spree using fake credit cards, Chinese state media said yesterday.

The two bought 190,000 yuan (US$23,700) worth of cameras, computers and watches at various Shanghai stores in early June last year before being caught, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Shanghai First Intermediate People's Court sentenced one of the Malaysians, Gan Soon Lee, to seven years and fined him 200,000 yuan, while the other, Lee Kah Weng, got six years and a fine of 180,000 yuan.

An official with the court told Xinhua the two men planned to sell the goods they bought in Shanghai to pay their debts in Malaysia.

They were assisted and guided around the city by a Chinese woman identified as Yang Juan, who was sentenced to five years and fined 180,000 yuan, Xinhua said.
