Malaysia Airlines today said it will resume flights to Lebanon that were suspended during Israel's military offensive there, due to high demand for the service.

The resumption is to "meet the surge in travel demand arising from the current efforts for the return to normalcy in Lebanon," the carrier said in a statement.

The airline's managing director, Idris Jala, said the flights would recommence from October 15 and be operated using 229-seater A330-200 aircraft.

Malaysia Airlines in July suspended its thrice-weekly route from Kuala Lumpur to Beirut via Dubai after Israeli air strikes on the airport shut down the facility.
