Minister fined again

Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa was fined again for violating the standard operating procedure (SOP) against Covid-19. He paid the RM2,000 fine.

Annuar outed himself when he posted on Twitter that he visited former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at his Kuala Lumpur residence.

In February, he was fined for having a group meal despite dine-in being banned.

No apparent action was taken when Annuar went jogging with two others from different households in January.

Govt contract doctors

The campaign to push for better treatment of government contract doctors appears to be paying off with some concessions from Putrajaya.

Putrajaya granted contract doctors from the 2016 intake a one-off one-year extension and also offered permanent positions to some from the 2017 intake.

These cohorts are facing the most urgency as their five-year training at public hospitals are coming to an end, after which they have to move to the private sector or go abroad.

However, stakeholders want a more permanent resolution instead of band-aid solutions.

Putrajaya promised to unveil a proper resolution this week.

Expectations from the DPM

Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s appointment as deputy prime minister may be seen as a political move by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to retain Umno’s support but expectations are still high for him to deliver.

However, his advice for all parties not to play politics, considering the circumstances of his appointment, courted scorn from critics.

Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP Saifuddin Nasution said the advice should be directed at Ismail Sabri’s own government.

Meanwhile, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh asked Ismail to solve various SOP issues which he could not when he was a senior minister.

Semambu assemblyperson Lee Chean Chung also urged Putrajaya to address increasing criticisms from foreign investors.

  • A Turkish tour guide posted on Instagram that he had guided International Trade and Industry Minister Azmin Ali on a tour of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The post was deleted after it was publicised.

  • Sarawak will become the eighth state to move into Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan on July 14.

  • The High Court in Ipoh heard that eight spots believed to be semen stains were found on a mattress cover in the house of Tronoh assemblyperson Paul Yong. He is accused of raping his domestic helper.

  • Vaccination minister Khairy Jamaluddin instructed for more thorough screening after a person with Covid-19 managed to enter a vaccination centre.
