Najib strikes back - Part II

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has taken further legal action against his enemies, after setting his sights on the Inland Revenue Board and his former deputy Muhyiddin Yassin previously.

Najib has filed two lawsuits against former attorney-general Tommy Thomas.

The first is for "wrongful prosecution" over several criminal cases. The second is for defamation over Thomas' autobiography which allegedly directly associated him with the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Meanwhile, the Pekan MP has also lodged a report with the MACC against former Goldman Sachs executive Tim Leissner in an effort to get a list of officials that the latter had bribed in relation to the 1MDB scandal.

Najib believes this list can help to clear his name.

Muda to make Malacca debut

Youth-based party Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) is planning to make its debut in the forthcoming Malacca state election.

Muda's pro-tem president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the party is currently in seat negotiations with Pakatan Harapan.

Harapan is currently negotiating internally on how to distribute six seats previously contested by Bersatu when it was part of the coalition.

This could be Muda's way in to contest, without setting itself up for a clash against Harapan.

Previously, Sabah's Warisan offered to let Muda contest under its logo.

Period spot checks again

The issue of period spot checks reared its ugly head again when students at a vocational college were forced to undergo the demeaning practice.

Period spot checks at the ERT Vocational College in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur have allegedly been going on for some time and reportedly stopped during the height of the scandal earlier this year.

This latest incident caught widespread attention on social media and prompted a visit by Education Minister Radzi Jidin to meet with the students - without teachers and wardens present.

The Education Ministry had said in June that it would set up a committee to look into period spot checks but there have been very little developments on this since then.
