Bank accounts belonging to Opposition Leader Hamzah Zainudin and his wife have been frozen by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) – something the former claims was due to intervention from the “highest level” of leadership in Putrajaya.
The Bersatu secretary-general said this is part of ongoing attempts by the federal government to pressure Perikatan Nasional due to the coalition’s expanding influence.
IRB officials had raided Hamzah’s residence in Kuala Lumpur in June, where files and documents pertaining to accounts and asset ownership were purportedly seized.
Hamzah had also, earlier this month, sent a letter of demand to the government and MACC chief commissioner, accusing them of abusing their powers to prosecute him for crimes he did not commit.

Large deposits into Rosmah’s bank accounts
It was revealed in Rosmah Mansor’s money laundering trial that her account received over RM1 million between 2014 and 2017.
This involved 27 transactions totalling RM1,098,200, according to the first prosecution witness, Affin Bank’s Nor Ashikin Abdullah.
Rosmah is facing 12 counts of money laundering charges involving RM7,097,750 and five charges for allegedly failing to declare her income to the IRB.
The wife of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak was also previously convicted and sentenced to 10 years in jail and an RM970 million fine in a corruption case linked to the solar hybrid energy project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak.

PM’s conversion storm rages on
The controversy over Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s act in presiding over a conversion to Islam continues as another activist is being investigated by the police for questioning the matter.
The activist S Shashi Kumar has since urged the government to engage with them, instead of clamping down on those critical of the administration.
He earlier walked off from Bukit Aman, where he was called in for questioning, after they asked him to surrender his phone to facilitate the investigation. He denounced the request as an invasion of privacy.
