25 years of reformasi
September marked 25 years since Anwar Ibrahim initiated the reformasi movement after he was sacked as deputy prime minister in 1998.
Wednesday was also the anniversary of when police arrested Anwar during his struggle against then-prime minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Now Anwar is the prime minister, and questions are being asked as to whether the principles of the reformasi movement are still being upheld by his administration.

Local rice shortage
A shortage of local rice being sold had courted widespread public anger.
However, the situation may not seem as dire as initially thought.
The Selangor state government claimed there was actually an adequate supply of local rice, and that any place with a shortage would be restocked within 24 hours after the state agriculture department was alerted.
Meanwhile, in Kelantan, local rice was still readily available as residents in the state appeared to have an affinity for Thai rice - usually smuggled across the border.

Pelangai by-election
Nomination day for the Pelangai by-election is tomorrow (Saturday).
Bentong Umno information chief Amizar Abu Adam has been tasked with defending the seat for BN.
Meanwhile, PN's Kasim Samat will be having a second go at the seat after an unsuccessful bid during last year's general election.
BN had won the seat last year with 57 percent of votes, but changing sentiments might turn this by-election into a tough fight.
Speculation is rife that if PN somehow wins the seat, it would set off a chain reaction throughout Pahang and maybe even in Perak.
