Malaysiakini fact-checks PM
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday suggested that a Malaysiakini columnist needs to improve his command of Malay and not twist his remarks.
Former business editor P Gunasegaram wrote a comment piece claiming that Anwar had mistakenly described the ringgit’s performance as at its strongest level.
While Anwar said Malaysiakini must correct its report, a fact-check found that the issue stemmed from Bernama’s original reporting of his speech on the ringgit, which we published.
Anwar had in his speech said the ringgit increase was the strongest in 14 years, Bernama had reported it as the ringgit itself being the strongest in 14 years.

However, it was supposed to set up a network of EV superchargers.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had said last year that this was to take into account the companies’ future contributions to the country.

Olympic gold out of grasp
Malaysia ended its Paris Olympics campaign with two bronzes - both in badminton.
The country’s final hope at a medal via cyclist Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom was dashed when he was swept in a three-cyclist collision during the final lap of the men’s keirin finals.
Malaysia’s top gold medal contender, Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, was disqualified in the keirin event after overtaking the motorcycle pacer during the Heat 1 round.
This is the first Olympics since the 2004 Athens Games where Malaysia failed to win a silver medal.
