Kedah unveils new guidelines for concerts

The Kedah state government has lined up new guidelines for holding concerts in the state, said Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

According to the PAS lawmaker, the state administration is not “anti-concert” as claimed by certain quarters as it allows shows to be held, as long as they follow the conditions set.

“There are guidelines for concerts in Kedah so as not to violate customs and morals.

“Last time, concerts needed to be approved by district officers but now they have to go through the state exco members,” Sinar Harian quoted Sanusi telling a press conference after launching the Visit Kedah 2024 in Kuala Lumpur last night.

Among the guidelines enforced include the organiser choosing the right time and venue for the show and not having the performing artists - male and female - wear revealing clothes.

“If you want to perform in Kedah, you have to be dressed decently,” Sanusi quipped.

In 2022, the Kedah government decided to disallow all open-air concerts in the state.

Last February, a hip-hop concert in Alor Setar triggered a controversy over the misconduct of youth participants. The organiser later apologised for not seeking the state government’s approval for the show.
