PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub said he will contest the Pulai parliamentary seat in the upcoming 13th general election, but admits that it will be a “stiff fight”.
He has announced on his Facebook over the weekend that he will also be contesting the Nusa Jaya state seat.
When contacted, Salahuddin told
Bernama
yesterday that although he is a Johorean born in Kampung Serkat, he realised it would not be easy to contest against BN or Umno, as Johor was their stronghold.
"Nevertheless, the people's acceptance (of us) is different now, and we expect a stiff fight in Johor," he said.
Bernama reported that he will face a tough opponent in Umno’s Nur Jazlan Mohamed ( left ), who had won the Pulai seat in 2008 with a 20,499-vote majority, thus defeating PAS candidate Abdullah Idris.
According to Bernama , Nur Jazlan is reported to be popular with the constituents, regardless of whether they are Malays, Chinese or Indians.
MB post not on his agenda
Meanwhile, Salahuddin - in his Facebook posting - explained his decision on Pulai, stressing that he was not after the menteri besar post.
“I want to stress that it is not my agenda to aim for the Johor menteri besar post, in returning to contest in my home state.
“My main agenda is to help my colleagues here (in Johor) to take down the cruel Sang Penguasa (ruler),” he wrote.
He also noted that taking on Nusa Jaya was a heavy responsibility.
“Pray for us and all our colleagues,” he added.
