Defeated Barisan Nasional candidate for the Sarikei parliamentary seat in the May 5 general election, Ding Kuong Hiing, today filed a petition at the High Court in Sibu seeking to nullify the result of the election.

 

He lost the seat to Wong Ling Biu of DAP, who won with a 505-vote majority.

Ding, of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), obtained 13,758 votes against Wong, who garnered 14,263 votes.

Some 28,330 people or 77.7 percent of the total 36,550 registered voters in the constituency turned out to cast their votes.

In his petition, Ding named returning officer David Liau, the Malaysian Election Commission and Wong as the first, second and third respondent, respectively.
