BN today filed 21 election petitions at the High Courts nationwide, says coalition secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in a press release today.

Tengku Adnan, however, did not name the seats - the results for which the BN will be contesting.

He said, “Initially, we wanted to file 50 petitions, but in consideration to save the courts’ time and expenses (in filing) the petitions, we have decided to file 21 (petitions) only.”

“BN does not want to raise trivial issues in court. Hence the 21 petitions, God willing, have bases which we believe are strong and have merit which should be considered by the courts,” said the BN secretary-general in a statement.

“We hope and believe that these matters will similarly be considered by the opposition in filing their petitions. BN hopes that such trivial matters would not be raised in court.”

Be that as it may, Tengku Adnan believes that the government helmed by BN would still remain, and it would commit to its responsibilities which have been entrusted to them by the people in the last election.

The last day to file election petitions is tomorrow.

Under the Election Offences Act, an election petition can only be filed on specific grounds, such as bribery being involved, threats and procedural irregularities.

It is understood that the Batu and Lembah Pantai constituencies are among the parliamentary seats involved in Kuala Lumpur.
