The Perak PAS has filed three petitions seeking to nullify the May 5 general election results for the Manjoi, Lubok Merbau and Pasir Panjang state seats.

The election petitions were filed by lawyers Aminuddin Zulkifli and Sean Augustine at the High Court in Ipoh.

In the last 13th general election, Mohamad Ziad Mohamed Zainal Abidin, from Barisan Nasional (BN), defeated PAS candidate Asmuni Awi with a 132-vote majority in the contest for the Manjoi state seat.

In the contest for the Lubok Merbau seat, BN’s Siti Salmah Mat Jusak defeated PAS’ Mohd Zainudin Mohd Yusof with a majority of 53 votes.

The contest for the Pasir Panjang seat involved a three-cornered fight between BN’s Rashidi Ibrahim, Rohawati Abidin, from PAS and Independent candidate S Vijayan. Rashidi won the seat with a 304-vote majority.

PAS contested in 22 state constituencies in Perak during the May 5 general election and won five of the seats.

Meanwhile, Perak PAS deputy commissioner Misbahul Munir Masduki, who was met at the court compound, said the state PAS would also be filing petitions to nullify the May 5 general election results for the Rungkup, Manong and Selama state seats.

Perak PKR files two petitions

In another development, Perak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) filed two petitions at the High Court in Ipoh today seeking to nullify the May 5 general election results of the Bagan Datoh parliamentary seat.

One of the petitions was filed by the PKR candidate for the seat in the May 5 general election, Madhi Hasan, who is a lawyer by profession.

The other petition named a voter in Bagan Datoh, Azmi Sulaiman, as the petitioner.

Madhi, who is Perak PKR vice-chairperson, lost to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the contest for the parliamentary seat. Ahmad Zahid won with a majority of 2,108 votes.

PKR contested for nine parliamentary seats in Perak, but won in three of the seats, namely, Lumut, Sungai Siput and Gopeng.

Meanwhile, the Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) filed three petitions at the High Court in Muar to nullify the 13th general election results for the Batu Pahat, Penggaram and Parit Yaani seats.

Lawyer Haliza Abdullah filed the petition for the Batu Pahat parliamentary seat, while lawyers Izzat Muhtar and Syahrul Syazwan for the Penggaram and Parit Yaani state seats, respectively.

Two petitions were also filed by BN at the High Court in Johor Baru to nullify the results for the Stulang and Puteri Wangsa state seats.
