Gerakan today urged PKR and DAP to stop insisting on nominating only PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the Selangor menteri besar post, as it will only prolong the crisis.

Its youth chief Tan Keng Liang (left) said this is as that the parties have already reached their goal of unseating incumbent Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, when Khalid informed the palace of his intention to resign on Tuesday.

“There’s no benefit to the rakyat in Selangor for PKR and DAP to insist Wan Azizah as the sole candidate for the menteri besar post,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said that if the two parties are sure that Wan Azizah is the best person for the job then they should not worry about the sultan not choosing her among the names submitted.

“Surely, the Sultan Selangor would choose the best candidate to govern Selangor,” he said.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has asked all Pakatan parties to submit “more than two names” each for him to choose from based on what the monarch claimed was "conventional" practice.

However, PKR and DAP on Tuesday said they will only submit Wan Azizah’s name as planned as in 2013, the sultan asked for four names but was only provided one.

PAS has yet to decide on whose name it will submit, but secretary-general Mustafa Ali said the party will send “no less than two names”.

Meanwhile, MCA Federal Territories’ publicity bureau chairperson Lau Chin Kok in a separate statement said that the crisis had shown that PAS is a “chameleon”.

“The people should re-evaluate PAS now that the whole episode of the Selangor menteri besar saga has exposed their true colours as none other than political opportunists.

“DAP should also stop window-dressing for PAS, who had betrayed them many times already,” he said, adding that DAP is being used by PAS to win non-Malay voters.
