Former PAS central committee member Mujahid Yusof Rawa has defended his resignation from Penang government posts, insisting that the party has cut ties with DAP.

 

"Even if the committee were to discuss (the motion to cut ties with DAP), they would only discuss how to do it, not how to revert it.

 

"So if there is anything wrong that I did (by resigning), that I was one step forward, then the party will have to take disciplinary action against me," he told reporters outside Parliament today.

 

Mujahid yesterday announced he had quit as board member for Yayasan Islam Pulau Pinang and the Penang International Technical Islamic College, and urged other PAS members to follow suit.

 

The announcement came two days after defeated PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu ( photo ) told the party muktamar that he would be quitting his positions within the Penang government.

 

"I quit all my official posts because of my honour.  You do not cut ties with someone and then still work with them. That's all there is to it," Mujahid said.

 

When asked what he thought about former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's call for PAS to make amends with DAP, Mujahid refused to say if he supported the call.

 

"I don't know, I can't say agree or not agree. It is just a matter of how are you going to resolve this very crucial and critical moment for Pakatan.

 

"A senior politician like him (Anwar) should say things like that, I don't expect to say anything else," he added.
