Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Wahid Omar today assured participants at the 16th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) that those who had committed any crime would ultimately be punished though not immediately.

He acknowledged that the country was facing "certain difficult issues" but said the truth will come out in the end.

"When it comes to the law, it does not only have a long arm but also a very long memory.

"If all of us play our respective parts, don't worry. If any crime has been committed, it will be found out.

"If not today, tomorrow, next month, or five years down the road or 10 years down the road.

"Rest assured, there is God in this world and the truth will prevail," he told the participants at the closing of the IACC in Putrajaya this evening.

Abdul Wahid said this after Transparency International vice-president Elena Panfilova, in her preceding speech, reiterated that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has to come clean on the RM2.6 billion in his personal bank accounts.

Abdul Wahid also assured that Putrajaya was committed to combating corruption.

He said the government, through the Government Transformation Programme (GTP), had improve its anti-corruption efforts.

Furthermore, he said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today was also an improvement from its predecessor, the Anti-Corruption Agency.

He also stressed that efforts were being made to combat both the giving and receiving of corruption.

He likened this to combating wildlife trade where stopping the buying also helps to put an end to such businesses.
