Anwar Ibrahim told the Syariah High Court in Shah Alam today that senior lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had included extra details on his sodomy case when giving a talk organised by Umno Youth last year.

The former opposition leader said Shafee's additions were not part of the proceedings in his Sodomy II trial, adding that he was willing to furnish the court documents to prove this.

“The talk given is untrue and contains false details which Shafee added to it," said Anwar.

"This goes against Section 36 of the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment (Selangor) 1995, which requires Shafee to produce four witnesses."

Anwar also maintained the sodomy incident did not take place, as alleged by Shafee, even though the Federal Court last year upheld the PKR de facto chief's conviction and sentenced him to five years' jail for the criminal offence.

Testifying in his qazaf (bearing false witness) complaint against Shafee today, Anwar told judge Mohamed Fouzi Mokhtar that he learned of Shafee's talk when he was serving his prison sentence.

"My wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and lawyer Fadhlina Sidek informed me about the talk," he said.

Anwar also submitted several news reports, one each from Malaysiakini, Free Malaysia Today and Utusan Online articles, on the talk held by Shafee in Kelana Jaya on Feb 17.

He also submitted a copy of Malaysiakini's recording of Shafee's talk.

During the talk last year, Shafee had spoken of his experiences as the lead prosecutor in Anwar's Sodomy II trial when it was heard at the Appeals Court and Federal Court.

This is Anwar's first complaint against Shafee over the talk in Kelana Jaya, which was supposed to be part of a roadshow to explain the Sodomy II conviction to the public.

Anwar had also lodged a separate complaint against Shafee with the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board.

Meanwhile, senior lawyer Tommy Thomas and former Court of Appeal judge VC George had also submitted a motion to the Malaysian Bar last year for it to move a complaint against Shafee to the board.

However, Shafee filed a suit against Tommy, George and the Bar Council to prevent the motion from being tabled.

Shafee's suit was dismissed by Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Justice Hanipah Farifullah last May 26.
