Malaysians have become somewhat used to the idea that there must be truth to what is said, and have to a very large extent accepted that if Anwar Ibrahim cannot be out o­n bail it's due to 'national security'. The same goes to all those languishing in Kamunting for some reason or another.

I read with mixed feelings, o­ne of amusement and concern with regard the latest debacle that has
befallen the opposition parties - DAP Selangor chairperson M.Manoharan's call for a sedition charge to be brought against Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister M Kayveas for suggesting to close down vernacular Tamil schools.

Aizuddin Danian's contention that principles are just something nice to look at, and that being 'practical' is the way to go, is indeed sad. Sounds like the kind of advice o­ne dishes out to the children of the lesser God.

I disagree with Wan Sai Hou in his letter stating that the Iraq war was a pre-emptive strike by the US against terrorism instead of exploiting Iraq's oil reserve. Wan, ask yourself, if oil was not the issue, what is? To strike against terrorism? To free the Iraqi people against Saddam's regime? A favour to the Israelis to free the region from weapons of mass destruction (WMD)?

SF o­ng wrote that MCA should not let Umno be the sole hegemon. What he means is that MCA has always had to 'listen' to Umno, the 'Big Brother' in BN. He may be right in this sense; MCA
leaders have had to toe the line and abide by Umno leaders' wishes. This has been the modus operandi of MCA in BN since1970, so it comes as no big surprise to the Chinese community in this country.
