Looking at the current trend of by-elections in Malaysia, it appears that it takes the unfortunate demise of one's elected representative for one's constituency to beget all the rudimentary and basic infrastructural facilities, legal documents and, of course, financial allocations that have been eluding all these while.

The speed and 'efficiency' displayed by the bureaucrats, at the insistence of the politicos, of course, is simply amazing.

Perennial flooding that has been an a regular 'traditional' feature of a locality is now promised to be a thing of the past, with generous allocation so kindly dished out for alleviating the oft-repeated malady.

Identity documents, a basic right of all genuine Malaysians, that has been lingering in the KIV basket of the relevant ministry for ages, suddenly appears as pukka documents to be issued to feeble and old applicants nearing the end of their lives.

Funding is provided to 'national-type' schools that, actually, do not require them and are quite self-sustainable through voluntary donations all along.

If this be the methodology of those who hold power to fulfill an electorate's basic demands, then, perhaps, one ought too seriously pray that one's own 'wakil rakyat' kicks the bucket to avail of the requisitions that one has been seeking all along.

God help Malaysia.
