Five 'A's for Umno-BN gov’t, will leaders survive?
Strange? Coincidental? Manifestation? Come to think of it indeed there are five As that are battering hard on the doors of the Umno-BN government and its leadership and future in Malaysia.
The first ‘A’ is the Altantuya Shaariibuu spine-chilling, mystery-murder.
Till this day and hour, the killing of the Mongolian lady who got blasted away into nothingness with high-security explosives used from the government-vault, remains unresolved.
No murderers. No plotters. No explanation on what was the motive. No light on how her immigration records went missing. No probe on the alleged links with the prime minister of Malaysia. No reason why a Mongolian national was enlisted in the highly secretive arms purchase for a government.
The second ‘A’ is the widely condemned ‘Allah’ issue.
Despite both Muslims and non-Muslims the world over condemning this maddening and relentless attack on the freedom, sanctity, rights and honour to name and worship God in a language best known to the minority faiths in Malaysia, the Mahathir Mohamad and Najib Abdul Razak administration cling on to their strategies of power and control banking on religious divisiveness.
Today, the Catholic Church in Malaysia is still kept in painful suspense with a verdict still pending on the church’s appeal.
The third ‘A’ is the re-jailing of Anwar Ibrahim.
The world over, including the US government, the viewpoint shared is that Anwar’s Sodomy II trail and imprisonment is a politically motivated persecution executed by the ruling government.
If Malaysians said so, they will be branded as ‘pro-Anwar supporters’; and as trouble-makers out to destroy a nation. But when leaders, observers and wise men the world over state that this is injustice, certainly Umno-BN cannot keep claiming that they are justified and that the Malaysian judiciary is independent and clear as crystal.
The fourth ‘A’ is Azizah.
Yes it is Wan Aziziah Wan Ismail, the wife of Anwar Ibrahim. In naming her as the potential candidate for the Kajang by-election, the temperature has crossed the boiling point within Umno-BN circles.
Public opinion always rules supreme at the end of the day. Already, people - Malays, Chinese and indians are rallying to stand by her. And so the cannons are aligned against the Umno-BN barricades.
The fifth 'A' is an Aircraft.
And now a fifth ‘A’ that is forcing the Umno-BN government and leadership to come within the radar of a wider global community. The microscope of the global audience is positioned on the Being 777 jet that went missing in mid-air flight.
The jet crash of Malaysia’s national carrier is revealing to the global audience how ridiculous things can get around here in Malaysia. The public anger is certainly rising and even China is hitting out at the way the Malaysian government is reacting and responding to the crisis of mega proportions and high emotions.
The investigations will keep spilling into the global mediascape with revealing details over time and there will be no escape even if the Umno-BN leadership claims control over certain newspapers and television stations using its tested, proven and relied upon law that curtails media freedom.
The question is can Umno-BN withstand and survive all the five As?
