Stop playing poker-and- checkmate with MH370
As the weeks keep rolling on without any consolation and relief over the fate of 239 lives from so many countries, it is most disgusting to witness Malaysians playing political poker-and-checkmate using the MH370 mystery as their pawn.
The biggest culprit seems to be politicians. And that makes it all the more disgusting.
We read of how some politicians and leaders of political parties are taking advantage of this international crisis. One political party even denies its opponents any chance to debate the crisis in parliament in a transparent and accountable manner.
But on the contrary the Umno-BN political wing goes to the extreme of shutting out its opponent members of parliament from a closed-door briefing on the crisis held exclusively for its own camp of members of parliament. And they do it in a hotel, mind you.
When Anwar Ibrahim invites the ruling political party to join hands in addressing the still-missing jet aircraft which has global implications, we see total indifference and snobbery from the ruling leadership.
What we see instead is a media strategy to create questions about the opposition leader and his coalition.
Then you have certain mainstream media painting strange yarns over the personalities on board the ill-fated flight. Yet the ruling political party which the world knows has an iron grip on the local media chooses to look aside. No reprimands. No action taken on such spinning media.
Meanwhile, you have the police force not taking any chances in keeping the media adequately in the loop over their seeming ‘raids’ to confiscate and examine the personal property of the pilot and checking backgrounds of a flight engineer and the co-pilot.
But when it comes to the many Chinese nationals who are huddled in a hotel in Malaysia and being kept away from the spotlight of media, the justification dished out is that the media must respect the next-of-kin who are deeply distraught.
But then how come three of the Chinese nationals flown in by the Malaysian national carrier chose to barge out to get the foreign media’s attention recently?
Saddled with all the negative publicity, certain local media are seemingly painting suspicion and raising doubts in the public minds. The fact that a senior minister must openly state that all persons on board the flight are innocent until proven otherwise clearly indicates the extent to which this internationally-affecting tragedy is being used to serve political ends.
Bottom-line question
The bottom-line question that seems to be conveniently made to skip the public’s eye is what was the Defence Ministry and its air force doing in those crucial moments when the plane was spotted to have flown over the nation as an unidentified aircraft?
Why is the government not investigating the air force that is supposed to be watching over the safety and security of this nation’s 30 million people?
Suppose they are investigating, then why is it not reported in the media like the way the pilot, co-pilot and flight engineer are being splashed in the Umno-BN controlled media?
In the first place, why and whose idea was it to fly in the next-of-kin of those Chinese passengers on board MH 370 at the early start of this tragic news outbreak? What was the motive? What was the intention?
The political poker-and-checkmate game plan even included having a shaman to stage-manage his wares right in the high-security KLIA. And till today there have been no arrests apart from safe statements that certainly were meant not to upset the VVIP bomoh lest the magic-man unleash crocodile slaps on several VVIPs who must be his trusted clients.
There was a news outbreak about the psychic Uri Geller being approached by a significant Malaysian to help locate the missing aircraft - and that, too, so early upon knowing that the aircraft was missing.
Where does the buck stop?
