It may seem funny. But it is certainly silly to the marrow, or shall we say, most frustrating. And it is even shocking. The fielding of Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, a young woman lawyer, by DAP in Teluk Intan has got Umno really crying in the rain.

An Umno veteran wants Dyana’s mother to be expelled from Umno. If this is not ‘kejam’ what else can you call it?

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is preaching on how to raise children within Umno parameters. For him, children must be taught how to love and adore Umno from young. If that is not Hitlerism-styled propaganda, what else could it be?

A local Malay daily notorious for race and religious spine-chilling divisive spinning is on the highway to run down Dyana. The means justify their end.  If this is not sedition and treason, are there any other words for such actions?

Another macho politician who found his wealth and fame and power through a matrimonial strategy which overshadows his prestigious education in the hallways of London is desperately telling his young followers not to be taken in by a belle in battle. If that is not sexism, then what?

So, it seems that DAP has neatly hit home where it hurts most. Indeed, the pictures on the social media pages and on-line media are there to tell the big picture that no Malay can miss.

So it is hurting Umno and hurting real bad.

But how come there is none within Umno who can counsel the leaders on how to navigate this difficult weather?

You do not even have to be a veteran politician. You do not even have to be a half-a-century ruling party expert. Common sense will plainly dictate that Umno mismatched its cards at Teluk Intan. That is its first blindness caused by its own arrogance.

Secondly, Umno could have strategised to grace the fight with magnanimity. But it chose to go for brawls. How pathetic when a woman Umno leader hit below Dyana’s belt.

Third, Umno could have peddled its ‘Promises Fulfilled’ wares. But it remained unbelieving even in its own mantra or panacea, which by the way, the citizens have already made into a street joke.

Look Umno, why don’t you learn the ropes fast before all hell breaks loose?

Allegiance is not cast in stone

Party allegiance is not cast in stone. It is anchored on the dynamic human endeavours of faith, hope and charity. When you are unable to convince the changing mindsets amongst the voters, force, threats and reprimands cannot be the glue - unless of course if you want to plunge the nation backwards.

People had faith in you. You saw it for a long time until you ex-communicated your own kind with the jailing and punishing of Anwar Ibrahim. That set the hope in Umno rolling. It is not the rebellion even though one of your Umno Baru kingpin inventors keeps proclaiming that the opposition was born out of rebelliousness.

And now, with the battle Umno is engaging with the Dyana factor, even that charity is eroding. That well explains why the candidate’s mother is backing her child all the way even though she is an Umno member.

Maybe, it is too late for Umno to re-invent itself. Then please stop threatening the Malays. Do grow on your own merit or simply perish in your own crying in the rain.
