What is the current fashionable political road show in Malaysia? It is the season for the ‘I Love PM’ showdown. Now Khairy Jamaluddin the Youth Minister has set another precedent - getting his Umno yes-men to give the PM a boisterous shoulder ride, too.

Perhaps, the Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsein Loong’s urging to his people to pause and reflect before jumping on the bandwagon to find ways and means to honour the late Lee Kuan Yew.

It is reported (The Malaysian Insider) that “Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has called for a pause for reflection, after a series of proposals on ways to honour late founding father Lee Kuan Yew.

“The prime minister, who is also the late Lee's eldest son, was responding to a variety of suggestions in parliament, including naming Singapore's famed Changi Airport after the patriarch, who died on March 23 at age 91.”

And what was his advise? “These are all good ideas. But we should not rush into making decisions on this matter, especially so soon after Mr Lee has passed away. We should allow some time to pass, consider the ideas carefully and make calm, considered decisions which will stand the test of time.”

Exactly! Now how come none in Umno seem to have this kind of wisdom in the face of the honest questions that the Dr Mahathir Mohamad is asking and warning that Umno (including BN) will lose power if it continues with its current practices, omissions, lack of transparency and herd mindset.

Do the ‘yes-men’ of Najib realise that they are only speeding up the drifting of Malays votes away from Umno if given a level playing field?

Does Najib himself realise that all these sudden overdrive public pledges, flag waving and ‘I Love PM’ melees mean more apprehension over his premiership?

Indeed, Dr Mahathir must be right. The cracks are getting deeper for Umno/BN.

 

If only Malaysian politicians are willing to borrow the wisdom of Lee Hsien Loong, would we not be better off?

 

And learning fast would translate to showing where is the billions of money of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB); establish the real truth and reasons for the murder of the Mongolian woman; go after the corrupt and return the billions of ringgit back to the country; plug the wastages and sack the thieves through our respected judiciary; and stop taxing the citizens and migrant workers when you can raise more money by good governance.

Or would arrogance get the better of all the ‘Yes-men’ and they rebut, “Why should we learn from the kiasu nation? We know better!”

 

Unless of course you are bent on proving Dr Mahathir right ultimately, i.e. the demise of Umno/BN in the coming general elections.
