The latest revelation by the Bank Negara governor is spine-chilling. Hot on its heels we also learn that the two top guns of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) snubbed the public accounts committee (PAC) by asking for a 30-days grace period. And if that is not enough the Prime Minister, Najib Abdul Razak, hollers all the way from Japan that the duo will not run away and will keep their date with the PAC.

Add to that the fact that the head of the PAC actually granted the 30-days grace to the duo. It makes everything look so silly; makes all of us seem so stupid; nothing is now making any sense any more.

Scream as we may; write as much as we could; make statements through powerful people - none of these seems to put the brakes on 1MDB. Instead, the PM has gone public with his recent announcement of hiring public relations wisdom to fill in the gap left by Apco and later one white man.

If even Parliament cannot be respected what do we do? Why are all the powerful leaders we have in cabinet shutting themselves inside their own cabinets of see-no-evil, speak-no-evil and hear-no-evil?

Even Najib’s brother has expressed extreme shock the way this 1MDB debacle is rolling on. Yes, it is a ‘national crisis’ and yet we do not see any of our leaders and the entire cabinet making a rush to save this nation.

Why?

Pray we do not end up ultimately to the tune of the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder where motive is deemed not important and then all are threatened to shut up or face contempt of court proceedings.

When do we, or will we ever, say enough is enough? Is there no one in this country with power and responsibility and a call of duty to nation to stop this ridiculous and absurd turn of events?

Or must the people in having exhausted all avenues and patience, finally take it into their hearts and hands to walk the streets like Hindraf or Bersih or Bantah GST to return truth, sanity and justice into the nation’s soul? Please let it not come to this.

But for now, the maruah of this nation has been lost. But who cares?
