I am enticed by the views expressed in the article ‘Saminathan and friends did nothing to improve the situation’ by YB Lau Weng San, Oct 20, 2015. Indeed what did YB Tony Pua do? What did you YB Lau Weng San do? Calling people names in the press as “gangsters and thugs” is not the norm, although perhaps it is in Parliament and the state assembly.

In our everyday life we do not do that call people names ‘like schoolboys’ nor do we take kindly to anyone doing that, be it a YB. The ‘Yang Berhormat’ must learn to respect the common man however misleading he or she may be. I must state for the record that, I do not know nor have meet K Saminathan. Nevertheless I stand shoulder to shoulder with him to defend the wrong done to his good name and character.

The mayor of Petaling Jaya has given the approval for the traders to open their Deepavali Bazaar in the place the traders want, their usual place. The matter is closed, however unhappy YB Tony Pua and YB Lau Weng San may be. ‘Evil” has been overcome by light - Deepavali lights - be happy it’s Deepavali.

All should express appreciation to all concerned for the amicable settlement of this matter promptly. Now this brings me to the other matter raised by YB to justify the initial intention to move the bazaar.

The issues of party, the government, local council and political affiliations is best left to the politicians to work out in their own way and time. Ha-ha-ha! Joke here, must laugh. The other issues here in the article should be corrected and the correct light shown.

The SS2 morning market. There is no characteristics and solution difference between the two areas. There is traffic congestions point blank in both areas. Solve this, what it is due and how far it affects Petaling Jaya can be seen daily.

The question is why have a street market in a commercial area? There are two markets close by, with proper planning and infrastructures, one in Paramount Garden and the other in Section 14. These traders should be relocated there. This relocation may be done on simple logic - health and public safety. YB should look at the rats in the area. That is if you miss the rubbish. No danger to the commercial area and business but lots of danger to the residents, your voters.

These is a clear double standard as how many of the traders here are non-Chinese? What was the party membership of the trader? They were all MCA members. MCA was the warlord there then. The grandmaster is now DAP, so is this why, there is no plan to move the traders? Enforce the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) by-law fairly. All are equal before the law, is it not, Yang Berhormat. What is your plan of action here?

This is the same in Section 17 street market what is more here the market is a danger to the traders and market-goers, as it is so near to ongoing development.

Houses being converted to commercial units

The good thing in SS2 and Section 17 is that there “is proper planning and Infrastructure”? YB, you must be joking, indeed you must be! When was the last time you drove in Petaling Jaya? I have spent my whole life here. I see it differently. Look at the roads. Look at the residential houses being converted to commercial units without car parks and loading areas.

Then there is the elevated viaducts linking the roads to the LDP, seven of them (must be state planned). There was some planning but then with the developments approved and redevelopment approvals without due concern for the infrastructure roads, among others, where are we heading? The developer always says there would be no major traffic problem or that they would improve the road, but that never happens.

Two-story office complexes with 20 car parks to 234 unit apartments will not affect local traffic. The approval is given right under your noses. Then the same people complain about traffic problems. That is proper planning and infrastructure for you. The call of double standard is clear. Why?

Was there no improvements in the last seven years to Sungai Way under the current government and in your area, YB? What were you doing? Why, was this the ‘Ubah’ and ‘Demi rakyat’ we hoped for? And why maintain the street market when they are so unbecoming of a city?

On the durian stalls, why relocate them in the first place? What duty of care did MBPJ owe the durian stall owners? The stall owners were on private land. Would MBPJ, now help relocate ‘rumah haram’, temples and buildings on private land to public areas/parks or state land with public funds. Double standard, clearly? Would you not agree?

Yang Berhormat, these double standards do not stop at MBPJ - the darkness goes all the way. It was hoped this would change with a change of government. It would have brought light to the citizens but now we see that as usual the darkness is only changed by the light of Deepavali - be enlightened.
