Psychological assessment a must for gov’t officials
Former military attaché Muhammad Rizalman Ismail has shamed the entire country with his antics in New Zealand. Getting caught indecently assaulting a woman is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, his ludicrous statements in court further tarnishes the image of Malaysia.
Defecating in front of the lady’s home as a means of black magic, going to a strip club to enjoy music, ridiculous revelation that a woman’s smile is an invite to follow her in Malaysia, and citing stress due to corrupt seniors are completely statements of a psychopath.
There were accusations that the government was trying to cover-up the case. However, because the crime was not committed in Malaysia, New Zealand officials heaped pressure on our government to extradite Rizalman to New Zealand to face charges.
Whether Rizalman is play-acting to be mentally unsound or not, he is definitely not going to get away scot-free. How shameful it must be for his wife and kids. Three children who are having their father look like a complete moron globally. More than ever, we Malaysians are feeling pretty deplorable.
Not long ago, former minister Shafie Apdal made a complete jerk of himself by defending a paedophile. Last year, a Malaysian couple with diplomatic passports was charged and jailed for child abuse in Sweden. People all over the world must be having a very negative perception about Malaysians in general.
Rizalman is definitely not mentally normal. Why are people like him given such important post on the international platform? Although his is just an isolated case, every mind-boggling statement from his mouth reflects the entire country.
What does he mean by Malaysian men follow women who smile at them? If that is the case, his wife must either be a very depressed person who does not smile at all, or she must have had many men in her life. I do not intend to be personal, but the magnitude of Rizalman’s statement does cause that kind of damage in perception.
There is definitely a problem in this country. Boot-lickers should never be given important appointments. Strict laws needs to be in place. The government should be serious in tackling such issues. The relevant minister should start taking responsibility of such incidences.
Perhaps before any top appointments, a psychological assessment needs to be conducted by a well-trained medical professional. It should not be a one-off assessment. These assessments should be conducted periodically to ensure nobody mentally unstable is out there representing the country. Such assessments should also be conducted on members of Parliament.
For the umpteenth time, public personalities like politicians have been urged to think before uttering something from their mouth. Somehow or another, this message does not seem to sit in their gray matter. Maybe that is because there is nothing upstairs anyway.
All top government posts should be closely monitored. If stress is indeed a problem that makes coping difficult for some individuals, he/she should immediately be replaced. Malaysia is already an international laughing stock. It is high time some damage control is done.
