I have reading your news relating to the Inter Faith Commission conference organised by the Malaysian Bar with much interest.

I must say I am rather stumped by the several Muslim groups and PAS Youth who have made allegations of all sorts against the organisers but chose to boycott the conference and take their case to the press. This includes the handful of lawyers in the Bar's Syariah Committee.

I think that those who chose to boycott have merely shown to the world their fear and lack of competence. The meeting, as I understand it, is to look at a proposed law which may or may not be useful.

That is, of course, a matter which would be discussed at the conference. This then, makes those who boycott the conference totally irresponsible to whatever groups they claim to represent.

After all the fuss they make, these groups have not come up with any alternative or constructive idea other than the boycott. The fear of engagement by Muslim groups who are presumably predominantly Malay is terribly sad.

I am glad that my interests in resolving inter and intra religious and faith issues would be taken up by those who are attending. I think if anyone is interested to attend, they can ask the Bar. I did that without waiting for a formal invitation to come my way.
