As usual an incident happened and the buck is being passed around. I refer to the assault of the Sri Lankan envoy at KLIA.

It does not matter and it is still extremely worrying.

Many of us who use KLIA have frequently highlighted how lackadaisical security is and how the security personnel are not very attentive and just going about their routine because it is a job.

Isn’t it embarrassing we can’t protect KLIA from some uncouth hooligans hell-bent on causing harm to this Sri Lankan envoy? Surely the security apparatus inside and outside the airport must be on full alert all the time and react accordingly as soon as an unsatisfactory situation starts developing.

Like what was said by Prof P Ramasamy, it’s crazy that we are protesting against violence by committing violence ourselves. In any case the Sri Lankan envoy is of the current government and not of the era in question.

Our authorities are now saying that the protesters are of the banned Tamil Tigers group.

Let me ask, if knowing they belong to that group, our security forces should have been on higher alert and guarded the airport and the envoy thoroughly?

Then there was this rebuttal that no one told the authorities and they were not aware and would have provided full protection if they were given advance notice?

Well, surely the terrorist will not give advance notice? It is imperative for us to be on guard.

One of the most high-risk areas in our country and any country for that matter is our airport.

Time and time again we have pointed out lapses and lackadaisical attitude at KLIA

All that we ever get is a rebuttal in the media that “all steps have been taken”.

Obviously it wasn’t as a foreign envoy got assaulted in what should be one of our most secure places.

Let’s not play with words and semantics. Let’s just tighten the security and most importantly, be alert. Two hundred armed soldiers walking around the airport talking among themselves will not do.

They must be on constant alert for any signs of developing danger. If they were, the assault could have been prevented.

This is a serious breach of security and an utmost embarrassment to Malaysia.

Buck up please.
