The recent event of the suspension of the MIC Secretary-General S Sothinathan is an eye-opener for Indians to take stock of their status.

We all know there are numerous unrighteous discrepancies and double standards in the whole exercise of entry qualifications of students to local universities, the promotion of academics and the evaluation of universities satandards etc.

Everyone knows these discrepancies yet some pretend not to know. This is base politics. Many say that MIC President S Samy Vellu has been sitting there in the Cabinet for more than two decades but has not done enough.

But looking at the leadership potential within MIC and even outside, I wonder if anyone could have done better for the community. For the betterment of the Indian community, it is actually negotiating skills that one requires to deal with the Umno stalwarts.

His faults aside, I think Samy Vellu is the best bet for the community with Sothinatan as his protege. We salute the sacrifice Sothi made for the welfare of his community. He is the right choice to lead the MIC after Samy.
