Iraq - peace to pieces
I refer to the letter Smart Iraqis would back US forces by Malaysian liberal. While I disagree with terrorism which kills innocent lives, I also disagree with the notion that the occupiers should be given a free rein to do as they please. The people of Iraq deserve better.
Since the invasion, the US has been usurping Iraq's oil revenue. Oil pumps continue to flow no matter rain or shine. No accountability is made for Iraq's oil production, nobody knows how much or where the money is going. US companies are rebuilding Iraq at inflated costs while Iraqis are unemployed. Statistics show that most civilian casualties and deaths in Iraq are caused by the occupiers as compared to the insurgents.
Not to mention the continued lack of basic services such as electricity and adequate medical care. There is little security as petty criminals take advantage of the lawlessness to commit acts of kidnaping, rape and looting.
The country is getting more fragmented by the day as different ethnic groups are pulling in opposite directions. The outlook for Iraq is bleak as the country heads towards civil war and eventual break-up.
Whatever happens to the Iraqi people matters not as long as the oil taps keep flowing, because this is what the war is all about.
