A superyacht that is anything but Equanimity
LETTER | I checked the meaning of this word “Equanimity” and even learn how to pronounce it properly.
The word means 'calmness and composure, especially in a difficult situation'. I think it is a wonderful name to be given to a superyacht.
But did the owner/owners get to enjoy “equanimity” in this yacht? Maybe they did, but do they get to enjoy now?
We were told this yacht is worth RM1,000 million. When seized by the Indonesian authorities, the yacht’s owner/owners have not come forward to challenge it. Look like they have just disowned a RM1,000 million chattel for no good reason.
I am sure any bonafide owner with nothing to hide would come forward to claim ownership of this yacht if the seizure is unjustified or illegal. After all, this is not a “chicken feed” property.
Who really would remain silent, unless by admitting to the ownership, the owner/owners would face further ridicule and legal actions? There must a stake much higher than RM1,000 million pending on the owner/owners. They must be fearful of losing everything - and potentially facing jail-time - if they admit to the ownership of this yacht?
Most of us probably understand that greed and unfettered ambition are quite natural and a part of human character. But I think not many of us could fathom the extent of abuse that was being perpetrated. How could they ever do things without thinking of the repercussions?
The yacht “Equanimity” is now everything except equanimity. I am sure the owner/owners are suffering now, but I think deservingly so.
