To really confirm the actual cause of any tragedy or misconduct in a police station, the authorities should install CCTVs in every police station which has lock-ups.

In the event of any dispute or complaint, the CCTV recording should be referred to as main reference for any internal investigations.

CCTV installation would not only benefit the public to help prove their complaints or otherwise, but also help the police in their surveillance of what is happening in the police station in its day to day.

In fact, the police would benefit more than the public with the installation of CCTVs. Their investigation and fact-finding tasks would be easier, faster, accurate and more reliable.

The same is also necessary in general hospitals and in other sensitive and critical government agencies.

I would feel just as devastated as she if my children are taken away from me.

However, I cannot ignore the pain that a father would feel if he is not given the right to have a hand in raising his children.

Divorce is painful for all; not just to the two parties and their children but also to the extended family and friends when they are forced to take sides.

However, in the Malaysian context, the pain is felt not just by the family involved, but by the whole community. Our present dual legal system of civil and syariah has made it very divisive for the people.

The non-Muslims are skeptical of the syariah court's objectivity while converted Muslims are suspicious of the civil courts.

Why not establish arbitration between the two as enshrined in the Quran 4:35 ‘If you fear a breach between the two, then appoint a judge from his people and a judge from her people; if they both desire agreement...'

At the moment, I sensed that decisions are normally made unilaterally by either the syariah or civil courts. The twain should meet.

As parents, we can only guide but the final decision still rest with the individual. We may raise our children to be staunch Muslims or Hindus, but they may end up subscribing to someething else.

At the end of the day, they are still our children and our job is to love them unconditionally.
